Moving appropriately quickly, Warners has hired the writing team behind next summer’s Green Lantern movie to develop not only a Lantern sequel, but also a movie based on DC Comics’ fastest man alive, The Flash.

Greg Berlanti, Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim, who co-wrote the final script for Lantern, will write treatments for both movies before going on to write the script for one, according to the Hollywood Reporter (DC Entertainment’s Chief Creative Officer, and Flash comic writer, Geoff Johns has already been involved in the development on the Flash movie to date). The move seems either premature or confident considering that the first Lantern is still shooting, but does display some sense of urgency in Warners’ intent to utilize DC Comics’ superhero IP as a centerpiece for their movie development slate; New Batman and Superman movies are also already in development for release in the next three years.

The first Green Lantern is set for release June 2011.
