Vampires Vs. Jackets… In Court!

Congratulations to Summit Entertainment for the most ridiculous lawsuit of the year, in which they’re suing the manufacturers of a jacket worn by one of the characters in Twilight for telling people that their jacket was worn by one of the characters in Twilight.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Summit Entertainment filed a lawsuit against women’s fashion designer B.B. Dakota last Friday for copyright and trademark infringement, after it advertised a jacket worn by Bella Swan in Twilight with the phrase “Bella Swann (sic) wears this jacket in Twilight and scores the hottest vampire in high school, and so can you!”

Now, putting aside the fact that, well, who would want to score a vampire, hot or not, Summit seem to be going after B.B. Dakota for telling the truth, here. Stunningly, they’re asking to be awarded all profits from the sale of the jackets, the end to any further sales and, amazingly, the remaining jackets to be given to the studio to be destroyed. I can’t believe that this isn’t going to be laughed out of court, but perhaps I’m just far too innocent for my own good.
