Top Ten Nerdy Theme Park Attractions

By the time the doors opened, there were already 5,000 fans lined up outside of Universal Studio’s brand new Harry Potter theme park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, ready to surge through the magical world created by J.K. Rowling in her beloved book series.

There’s no denying it, Universal Orlando’s Potterland is the greatest attraction to hit the theme park circuit in a long time, and perhaps the most involved. The $250 million project takes park goers through Harry’s world, as created for the film franchise, and into full scale versions of Potter landmarks such as Hogwarts Castle, Hagrid’s Hut and Hogsmede Village.

This is not the first, nor the last park attraction to lure passionate fans from around the world, but so far, it seems like nothing will be able to top it. As a fan, there is little better than a slice of your favorite fictional world come to life, and theme parks are often a leading source of the opportunity. In ode to Universal’s new sensation, we’ve re-evaluated our other favorite slices of nerd haven in theme parks across the globe, and put Harry aside – just for today.

    Trying to Be Optimistic About a Google Music-Streaming System

    The Wall Street Journal’s Amir Efrati and Ethan Smith are reporting that Google is working on a consumer-electronics system designed to stream music–and, eventually, maybe video and other media–around the home. Their story doesn’t have much in the way of detail, but does say that Google’s brainchild might be akin to a lower-cost version of Sonos’s excellent-but-pricey music-streaming products. Absent more details, there are several ways to respond to this sketchy bit of news.
