The most recent Bond movie may just have been canceled due to studio bankruptcy, but here’s an argument for fixing that sooner rather than later: Inception and The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan has admitted that he wants to make a James Bond film.

Speaking before the world premiere of Inception, Nolan said,

I’ve loved the Bond films since I was a kid. For me, they’re always about the expansiveness of cinema. The first Bond films set up infinite possibilities about the world they create. I’d love to do a Bond film… The Bond influence on the film was very intentional because, for me, growing up with the Bond films — they’ve always stood for grand-scale action. In dealing with the human mind and dreams, my mind naturally gravitates towards the Bond films as that sort of expression of cinematic potential. By the end of the film you feel that Inception could go anywhere and do anything.

To whomsoever controls MGM right now: You should find out how to make this happen as soon as possible. I know, I know, Sam Mendes was in line to direct the next movie, and he’s great and all, but this is the man who made a Batman movie into one of the most successful movies of all time and has managed to make people excited about a smart summer sci-fi movie that isn’t based on a toy/comic/other movie. Get him while he’s hot, and watch your money worries… well, maybe not disappear, but lessen, at least. If you can afford to make his movie in the first place, that is.
