Probably under a dollar. It’s just a plastic mold after all.

Apple definitely has to fix this. It’s a major failure of quality control and the it’s quickly becoming evident that it’s not the only problem. The proximity sensor is starting to tick people off too and I don’t think a piece of tape is going to fix that.

If Apple is selling them for $30, they probably cost $5 to manufacture. If they correct the issue, Apple has an easy and fast path to helping their users correct the issue. It’ll be interesting to see if or how Apple reacts to CR’s rating.
