More rumors are leaking out about 2012’s Superman movie, and this time it’s not just a new (and somewhat unlikely) name being added to the list of possible directors. This time around, it’s a surprising choice for potential Man of Steel himself: Chuck star Zachary Levi.

The Geek Tyrant website is claiming that Christopher Nolan’s brother, Jonathan, is the real frontrunner for the directing gig – replacing Chris Columbus, whom they claim is completely out of the picture – despite his directorial inexperience (Superman would be his first movie), adding that Chuck‘s Levi has already auditioned for the lead. I’m unsure about how well Levi could handle the Superman portion of the role; Clark Kent, I’m sure he could pull off in his sleep after being a professional bumbling idiot in his day job for the last three years, but a believably sincere all-American (super)hero? In tights? I have a hard time seeing it – Although he could always ask former Chuck guest and onetime Superman Brandon Routh for tips, I guess.

Nevertheless, it’s good to know that, as Marvel Studios heads towards announcing the cast of Avengers, fans can go on playing the superhero casting game with their DC counterparts instead. After all, it’s not like Warner Bros. can decide who to cast as the Flash by themselves…
