Toy Story 4? This Is A Bad Idea

Yes, I know that Toy Story 3 is making Disney a lot of money, and that it gave Pixar their most successful opening weekend ever and everything, but the news that Tim Allen is already under contract for a Toy Story 4 fills me with something approaching dread. Can’t three movies be enough? If a trilogy is good enough for The Lord of The Rings, surely it’s good enough for Buzz and Woody, is all that I’m saying – it’s time for Pixar to move on, just like Andy already has. And, by move on, I don’t mean “direct-to-DVD spin-offs from Cars,” either…

(For their part, a Disney spokesman is purposefully leaving the lucrative opportunity open, saying “At this time, we have nothing to announce regarding another full-length feature.” “At this time”? Oh God…)

I thought that they declared TS3 the final movie. They certainly gave it a satisfying ending that felt like it tied up the whole story.

They gotta leave it at 3. It closed it very well, no use beating a dead horse.

Well, if anybody could pull it off, it would be the guys at Pixar. But I agree with everyone else: There are so many more, different things they could be doing instead. Why mess with perfection? Think how much more highly everyone would today regard The Matrix if they had never reloaded or revolved it enuf to leave a bad taste in our mouths.

Guys, sequels never die. This is the law in Hollywood. If it’s successful, another one will come down the pipeline. Lord of The Rings was a book, so they couldn’t make a sequel. You know what they did? Found another book with the same characters. And then add on a new movie with a new story. How many James Bond films have their been? How many Batman and Superman and X-Men? If a franchise dies, just wait 20 years and remake it. This is the natural order of Hollywood. As long as their’s money to be made, there are sequels.
