Audience Reacts To M. Night Shyamalan’s Name During Devil Trailer

Sorry, Universal. Fans haven’t forgotten The Last Airbender quite yet.

Given his most recent film making catastrophe, M. Night Shyamalan’s name in connection to a film is more kiss of death than prompt to pay $12.50. Listen to this audience’s reaction to his involvement in upcoming Devil before a showing of Inception this weekend. You can almost hear the collective eye rolling. Considering Airbender was Shyamalan’s rumored “redemption flick,” I won’t insult you with talk of its possibility of greatness. But, if you’re that much of a glutton for punishment, Devil is set to hit screens September 17. (See the trailer below.)

    Comes a New Nightmare

From the Mind of M. Night Shyamalan

    Yeah, that sounds about right…

The critics hated AIrbender. I hated Airbender. My SF fan friends (those whom I couldn’t warn off soon enuf) hated Airbender.

Yet there it sits on IMDb, with 10,000 votes and a 4.3 rating out of 10, so SOMEBODY likes it. (For comparison, we’re really sure that LOTS of people like The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, and its rating is only slightly better, at 4.7 with 24,600 votes.)

But the real predictor of whether we’ll continue to get movies from any given director is money, and Box Office Mojo says that Airbender is already $115M toward matching its production budget of $150M, not counting overseas revenues or DVD sales. So Shyamalan is winning the only battle that really matters.

Sorry guys, Universal has blocked the video. No question this isn’t something they really want out…

richardsrussell, you have to remember who normally votes on IMDB, people like you and me who TROLL THE INTERWEBZ. Most of the main audience that goes to those movies, and keeps going back to the twilight movies, do no vote on that website.

Allie, it’s too late. They’ve put his name on it so unless they’re willing to can the whole movie…

I’m wondering if this movie will count towards the fulfillment of his contract. I’ll bet Universal would put out a Hello Kitty movie from him if it gets them closer to finishing business with him.

That actually looked pretty good. Probably cuz’ it said “From the mind of M. Night..” and not “Directed By..”

Poor, poor M., like Lindsey he used to be hot but bad movies like bad coke can ruin your whole career.

I was at the theater when they released a teaser trailer for Lady in the Water. You weren’t sure what it was and it looked kind of interesting at first. When they put up M. Night’s name, it seemed like every person in the theater groaned loudly.
