In these days of transmedia entertainment, it shouldn’t be a surprise that a wold-be summer blockbuster movie is getting a video game to go with it. Still, since it’s Comic-Con, Warner Bothers Interactive Entertainment’s seen fit to release teaser art for Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters.

Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters is inspired by the feature film, which brings the enduringly popular DC COMICS SUPER HERO to the big screen for the first time and which stars Ryan Reynolds in the title role as HAL JORDAN, the newest member of the GREEN LANTERN CORPS.  In the videogame players will utilize over a dozen constructs and take flight across the deepest parts of the Universe to restore intergalactic order by wielding the ultimate weapon: the Green Lantern power ring.

“Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters gives players the chance to experience the world of the Green Lantern mythology in an interactive way, going beyond the events of the film and comic books,” said Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President, Production and Development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.  “The game is the first to center around DC Comics’ Green Lantern franchise and we’re excited to give fans the opportunity to experience the power of the ring with engaging gameplay.”

Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters is in development for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii by Double Helix Games and for Nintendo DS by Griptonite Games.

Players will presumably be controlling Hal Jordan in the game. It’s not clear where the game will sit in the GL mythos or in the timeline of the movie. The robotic Manhunters–all DC nerds know–were the Guardians of the Universe’s first attempt at a galactic peacekeeping force. They went all “organic life is bad” and were shut down by the little blue guys. Since then, they’ve come back as enemies in various Green Lantern comics throughout the decades.

According to their website, Double Helix has apparently been working on the game since at least September of last year. They’ve got a ton of licensed games under their belts and thankfully, a few that I personally have liked. Their Buffy game for the first-gen Xbox was good and I named Marc Ecko’s Getting Up as one of my favorite PS2-era games. But then there’s also questionable  stuff like The Da Vinci Code and G.I. Joe: the Rise of Cobra in their past, too. Let’s all channel our willpower and hope for the best, eh?
