Remember how I was all “Capcom better do right by Tekken!” over the weekend? Well, it turns out the exchange of characters between the two most stories fighting game series is a two-way street after all.

Today, Namco Bandai announced that they’d be incorporating Street Fighter characters into an all-new game called Tekken X Street Fighter. From Namco:

TEKKEN X Street Fighter will invite Street Fighter characters into the TEKKEN universe for the very first time.  Each Street Fighter character will receive a TEKKEN visual makeover while keeping their fighting style and special moves fully intact.  Once there, players will discover for themselves whether they’re really a match for the lethal power of the TEKKEN alumni.

“The ultimate dream match-up is about to be realized. With this astonishing collaboration, a new chapter in fighting game history begins,” said Katsuhiro Harada, TEKKEN series director, Namco Bandai Games Inc. “The Street Fighter and TEKKEN development teams have a great relationship. However, I see this new project not as a collaboration, but as the competition of the century between two legendary fighting game franchises.”

There aren’t quite as many details in Namco press release as in Capcom’s. TXSF will most likely be a 3D game and one guesses that Street Fighter X Tekken is further along in development than its counterpart. There’s no word on the release date or details on the hybrid roster, either. Still, two separate showdowns mean that there’ll be equal footing for each franchise. We’ll have more on TXSF and SFXT as news trickles out.
