Android Tablet Priced at $150 Pops Up in Kmart Ad

Well hello there, aggressively-priced and sort-of-decently-spec’d Android tablet. Looks like Kmart threw everyone a curveball by putting the 7-inch Augen GENTOUCH78 Android Tablet in its Sunday circular with a price tag of $150 after a $20 instant discount.

Naturally, they’re sold out so hard that Kmart has resorted to giving people rain checks, according to Engadget.

Here’s what the tablet has going for it.

1. It’s (sort of) available from an actual store.

2. It’s priced at $150. Or $170 when the sale ends. Either way, it’s priced to move.

3. It’s got access to the full Android Market.

4. It’s running Android 2.1, not some dumpy version of Android 1.5 or 1.6 like most of the semi-available, gray market Android tablets.

5. The company used Time.com in one of its product shots.

Here’s what the tablet has going against it.

1. The 7-inch screen’s resolution is just 800×480 and there’s no mention of multitouch.

2. The processor is just 800MHz atop 256MB of RAM.

Other features include 2GB of storage (expandable via 16GB SD card), Wi-Fi connectivity, eBook support, rechargeable lithium-ion battery. It definitely looks tempting at $150, though something tells me it’s going to be hard to find one for a while and the CPU and RAM might be a bit on the anemic side.

Still, access to the full Android Market is huge, as is running the Android 2.1 operating system. No word on Android 2.2 upgradeability, though it’d definitely be possible from a technical standpoint.
