BioWare’s slowly, steadily making the year-long wait for The Old Republic MMO more and more unbearable. Today, they’ve detailed what all the leveling up will get you if you play as a Jedi.  The two new advanced classes seem to offer skills that will entice players who want to play as part of a group or lone-wolf users who might like a little more PvP.

Here’s the official description for both classes:

A wall between the good people of the Republic and their enemies, the Guardian stands firm in the face of overwhelming odds and dares opponents to attack. Perfect concentration and use of the Force allows smooth movement even in heavy armor–making the Guardian a hard target to take down. Leaders on and off the battlefield, Guardians are known for inspiring allies to amazing feats, making them invaluable for conflicts of any size.

Control and focus are the hallmarks of the Sentinel.
Through years of training the Sentinel learns the art of using
two Lightsabers simultaneously to create an intricate web of damage
that is almost impossible to evade. Manipulating the Force, the Sentinel can see holes in the enemy defense, potential flaws in their own technique and how best to plan for both.

Both classes look bad-ass. One wonders if the Sith will have such advanced classes, too. The other cool element about these classes is that it gets you wondering how the Jedi we know from the movies and other parts of the fiction would have been classified. Obi-Wan’s almost certainly a Guardian, while The Force Unleashed‘s Starkiller appears to have gotten some kind of Sentinel upgrade in between games 1 and 2.

The Old Republic‘s scheduled to launch in Spring 2011.
