A EuroGamer report coming out of GamesCom indicate that Sony’s showing a prototype of their next-generation gaming hardware to various partners. This would-be PSP2 supposedly has touchscreen interface on the back of the unit, which allegedly has the same form factor as the PSP-3000 series.
Rumors about a new Sony gaming handheld have run the gamut, with whispers about a Sony Ericsson phone to a 3G-enabled device being the most recent. One thing’s for sure, though: Sony knows they have a weakness in the handheld sector. They’ve admitted as much and third-party publisher support is weaker than in previous years. No matter what their potshots at Apple say, they’re the ones who need to step their game up.
