Garmin is recalling roughly 1.25 million personal navigation devices that could potentially catch fire. 796,000 of those units were sold in the U.S.

Batteries from a third-party manufacturer powering five different nüvi models along with a specific circuit board design have been identified as the cause for some units to overheat. The nüvi 200W, 250W, 260W and 7xx models are the models in question.

If you happen to own one of the models then you’ll want to head over here and plop in the serial number (label on the back or bottom of the device) to check if it needs to be sent in. There have been no reported injuries yet and less than 10 instances have been identified, Garmin said.

Press release after the jump.
