Canadian Government Sponsors The Ultimate Green Car

Leave it to the Canadians to create a car made out of marijuana.

Really latching onto this trend of green technology, Motive Industries has invented the Kestrel. The electric automobile (ha, I guess an internal combustible engine was out of the question) has a body shell made of hemp. And, this car is completely legal since the weed was grown by Alberta Innovates Technology Futures, which has a license from the Canadian government and works with the Alberta Research Council.

The car does have some eco-friendly aspects. Researchers claim hemp fiber is cheaper and greener than fiberglass, and the car can be fully charged overnight.

But, don’t expect to get too far: The top speed is 56 mph (90 km/h), and it can only go 100 miles (160 km) on a single charge. Also, the shot of the giant joint near the end of the newsclip shows that they have to come a long way to convince people to take them seriously.

Let’s just hope the project doesn’t go up in flames.
