DC vs. Marvel: Tell Us Who Wins in a Batman/Spider-Man Fight and Win

Comic-book games come and go, but it’s rare that major releases featuring superhero comics’ Big Two come out in the same week. Both Batman: The Brave and the Bold and Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions hits store shelves today and we’ve decided to celebrate with some good old-fashioned nerd deliberation.

(More on Techland: Batman: The Brave and the Bold Goes Cross-platform)

In order to win a PS3 copy of Shattered Dimensions and the Wii-exclusive The Brave and the Bold, all you need to do is tell us who’d win in a showdown between the Dark Knight and the Wall-Crawler. It’s an age-old debate that pits utility belt vs. web-shooters and now we want to know what you think. Sound off in the comments and let us know who you think would have the upper hand and the best argument will score both titles.

Firstly, Batman and Spidey are both human and if Batman can take down both Superman AND Darkseid, Spider-Man shouldn’t be much trouble. Next, Batman, while not a killer, WILL play dirty to win. Third, once they are both out of Batarangs and web fluid, it comes down to who is the better hand-to-hand combatant, and that’s Batman. Then, Batman has a better support base with Alfred, Robin, and Oracle al providing oodles of intel on Spidey, who has, what? Aunt May? Spidey is strong and has speed, but so does Batman, who has the benefit of skill and decades of training. I love you, Spidey, but the Bat’s got your number.

Spider-Man all the way. He’s smarter than Batman (invented web fluid and shooters as a teenager), stronger than batman, faster than batman, and he’s beat up plenty of ninjas before.

I’d have to go with Batman. He’s had trouble fighting Daredevil, who I think would get starched by Batman (Bruce or Dick under the cowl). Spidey’s main advantages are strength, speed, agility and spidey-sense. He’s incredibly chatty though, and doesn’t have the heart to incapacitate someone unless really pushed. By the time Spidey realizes how dangerous Batman is after making quips and jokes, Bats will have analyzed Spidey’s style and found a way to finish him.

At first glance, Batman is the obvious choice. He is a tactician and Morrison has essentially turned him into an unstoppable force of nature. Despite this, Spider-man will win. Why? Because Spider-man never stops, he never gives up, and he never truly quits. He can’t, because the one time he was weak. The one time he let his guard down. His uncle was killed. Spider-man will be defeated by Batman in the first battle because Batman will be ready for him. Batman will have chemicals that will dissolve webbing and gadgets that will prevent Spider-man from swinging all over the city. Batman will defeat Spider-man in hand to hand combat but Spider-man will escape and live to fight another day. Spider-man, during this time, will discover the true identity of Batman and when Batman is Bruce Wayne at some function, Spiderman will attack with a new stronger webbing and a completely different fighting style, learned from Iron Fist. Batman will be unprepared for these changes and unable to show his true ability because he cannot reveal his true identity at this function.

    Guh. This is so hard.

Batman’s top strength is his mind. In the Justice League, he is always ten steps ahead of his opponents. Whenever he gets captured, it seems that it’s his choice to be captured. He also put up a good fight against Superman in the Dark Knight Returns (I think that’s the comic). He also had monster training. This guy’s a badass.

Spidey’s top strength is his sense and augmented physical strength. Come on. Imagine amplifying a spider’s sense by 1,000 or more – it’s like everything else is doing its thing in slow-mo. To add to that, his epic reflexes and strength give him the ability to actually act on what he senses.

I think that it will be a deadlock. While Batman probably might not be able to land a punch on Spidey (thanks to his epic senses and strength), Batman has a more mature way of looking at combat. He won’t go to battle with Spidey unprepared – he’ll probably have a paralytic ready for Spidey or some movement-inhibiting device. Spidey, though, will be able to sense the movements of Batman (and Robin, if he’s in the background), so he can escape the traps that the Bat has created.

    Meh. My brain hurts.

A fight between Spider Man and Batman is definitely going to be a close one. Both heroes are incredibly intelligent and have a reputation for dealing with situations by outwitting their opponents with impressive strategies and cunning, and both heroes have a variety of self-developed technologies to help them get out of sticky situations (no pun intended). On a very basic level the fight is essentially a tie.

With that said, Spider Man definitely has the one advantage to come out on top – he is gifted with superpowers. No matter how skilled Batman is, he will eventually succumb to fatigue whereas Spider Man can continue to climb on walls, detect danger, and take advantage of his superhuman strength and agility.

Bruce Wayne is one of the greatest super heroes of all time, but he is still just a man; and as his battle with Bane proves, a physically and mentally exhausted Batman can lead to horrible consequences – i.e. a loss to Spider Man.

So, you said that Batman would win the first fight. For all
intensive purposes, that what this was all about.

Batman would of course know that Spidey is Peter Parker. You think that a guy living with his aunt would stand a chance against a guy with Bruce Wayne’s resources?

Never give up? Peter just sold his soul to the devil, not Shymalan’s, the actual devil of Marvel, Mephisto, to get his aunt back. Silver Surfer has done better.

Batman knows and has mastered every martial art known to man. He even beat Karate Kid from the Legion who was rated higher and from the future because he plays dirty. A new style from Iron Fist? Really? Batman’s Kung- Fu reigns, owns.

New webbing? Batman has at least five other things in his belt to deal with it. Burn it, freeze it, jam the shooters, destroy the shooters, cut the shooters off, et cetera.

Batman has the stronger mind. He has geeked out all
    available sciences and strategies.

Batman is the most dangerous man in the world. Marvel’s too.

After a close battle, the victor would be Batman. While a good match, Batman’s strengths over Spider-man are his intellect, experience, combat skills, and use of technology. Having dealt with such insanely psychotic nememses as The Joker and Scarecrow over the years put him in a better position to finish the fight on his feet. Spider-man, while possessing the proportionate strength of a spider, is still only human and does not have the level of battle worn experience as The Batman. He would be compelled to maintain fairness. He also relies solely on his previously-mentioned proportionate strength of an arachnid and webbing, which Batman would neutralize soon enough by taking advantage of his superior skills in hand-to-hand combat and some presumably on-hand anti-webbing solution.

wel spidey should be able to win if its a fist fight. i mean he normaly has to pul every punch he makes to make shure doesnt kill his opponent. he knoked out a T-rex in one punch.

with his spidersens and speed batie probably wouldent be able to even hit him. and hes realy is just a man so one punch of spidey and batman should be out cold.

but here is the problem spidey would never realy want to hurt batman becaus what ever the reason there fighting batman would still be a good man in spideys mind so yeah batman would win in the end becaus he would be the only one in it to win it.

although he would have to corner spidey so he can keep on puttin the hurt on him for a while before spidey would go out cold becaus his stamina and durabilety is far beyond that of a normal human

As an ardent fan of the Dark Knight, I have decided to prove once and for all that Batman has nothing to fear from Spiderman.

Stand back; I’m going to use SCIENCE!

    Also, Google.

(Let’s see, “bat spider video”. That should do it!

Oh, National Geographic! Nobody can argue with the Golden Rectangle! This is gonna be so great…stupid spider getting eaten by a bat, oh-ho yeah.)

    http://video.nationalgeographic.com/video/player/animals/bugs-animals/spiders-and-scorpions/spider_orb_kills_bat.html

Oh no. No no. That’s, that’s not good at all.

    BRUCE! NOOOOOO!

  • retroguy71

Spider-Man by a (webbed boxing glove) knockout. Yes, Bats held his own against Superman but that was with Kryptonite; Spidey has no similar weakness, and Peter Parker’s strength and endurance are very, very high up on the metahuman scale. One could surmise that Batman’s tougher, darker, etc., more willing to do whatever it takes to win, but the fact remains that Spidey has stood up to countless foes and kept swingin’. And if you want to talk about endurance against adversity, look no farther than Amazing No. 33, when Spidey lifts the giant obstacle pinning him down, escaping a watery death in the Master Planner’s lair. Batman can take an inhuman amount of punishment. He’s brilliant and a master tactician, but I think Spidey would perservere. It’s what he does. Aunt May and MJ (Screw your Brand New Day, MARVEL!!!) are counting on him.
[Colbert voice:] Videogames please. [grabby motion]

In order to have the most fair matchup, you have to begin by using the most gritty of the forms each take, The Dark Knight (DK) Batman versus the Black Suited Spiderman (Alien Symbiote Spider Suit). In each case, this appearance is the most vindictive, vengeful and more powerful in many ways.

DK Batman, lurking / striking in the shadows was always the most feared of the Batman incarnations because of his stealth but most importantly because he toed the line between being good and evil. DK Batman would kill his enemies if need be. Other versions of Batman capture the bad guys. DK Batman still has all the gadgets that would aid to his attack plus his fighting style is more deadly than the acrobatic fight scenes depicted in older comics. He’d use all of this to put up a great fight…but I don’t think he’d win.

Spidey is already more than capable in combat without the suit but with it, is unstoppable (even from himself). Th suit enhances his powers and abilities exponentially and reacts to his thoughts. He’d be too fast and too strong for DK Batman. Although his emotions, would take control of him at some point during the fight. I think Spidey would crush Batman before the suit takes over completely.

    Sorry Bats!

I hate to be that kind of nerd, but the answer entirely depends upon the battle scenario.

If the battle were to go down in the style of the old Marvel vs. DC crossover, with Batman and Spidey being dropped into an arena with just their usual equipment and no prior knowledge of each other, I think Spider-man wins it. In such a fight, Batman is simply outmatched physically. Remember that his most famous loss was to Bane, who possessed superhuman strength and perhaps reflexes. And Batman knew about Bane, although the fact that he caught Bruce Wayne by surprise in Wayne Manor helped Bane win. Without foreknowledge of Spider-man’s abilities, even Batman’s genius, utility belt and mastery of martial arts couldn’t overcome Spidey’s abilities, particularly his spider-sense, which would allow him to avoid almost any of Batman’s usual gadgets and moves. Spidey’s no slouch either, and he’s taken on and held his own again many of Marvel’s heavy hitters including Wolverine, the Juggernaut and Iron Man. He’s proven to be one of the best fighters in the Marvel U again and again. Even if Batman could land some good blows, Spiderman has proven himself to have incredible endurance and stamina. And with his spider strength, he’d only need to land one good punch to knock Batman out.

However, if the fight were to take place in a world where Batman knew about and had a chance to study and analyze Spidey and prepare for him, then the battle would certainly to to Batman. He has not only beaten Superman in multiple stories thanks to his ingenious tactics, he had contingency plans that were used to successfully incapacitate the entire Justice League. If he knew about Spidey, and knew he had to fight him, he would first find a way to neutralize his spider-sense, such as the chemical that the Green Goblin (and later the Hobgoblin) i that could shut seddown Spidey’s extrasensory perception. Without his spider-sense to warn him, Batman would be able to incapacitate Spidey with one of his other gadgets. Spidey is less of a planner and more reactionary during most fights, relying heavily on his spider-sense to keep him one step ahead of his foes. With the proper time to strategize and plan, Batman can stay ten steps ahead of any adversary.

With the state of the newspaper industry as it is, freelance photographer Peter Parker was the first of many cuts made to newsroom operations at the Daily Bugle, especially in light of its buyout by the media branch of Wayne Enterprises.
Parker’s three-month-long job search netted few results due to his hyper-specific graduate degree and spotty work record. Jobless and penniless, Parker moved back to his room in the basement of Aunt May’s Brooklyn duplex.
Thanks in part to the expanded insurance coverage required by recent federal health care legislation, Wayne Enterprises took advantage of ARA money in order to expand its biotechnology operations with a research collaboration with Empire State University focused on bioregeneration through use of stem cells.
The expansion of the department’s budget allowed Dr. Curt Connors to hire additional lab technicians, and hearing his former pupil was out of work, forwarded a posting for employment to Parker.
Parker’s limited resume was far over shadowed by a letter of recommendation from renowned industry heavyweight Tony Stark, as well as his familiarity with and past contributions to Connors’ work, easily garnering an interview with a Wayne Enterprises headhunter.
Just as things were looking up for Parker, however, a Lois Lane expose on the use of federal funds for controversial research projects, namely those planned for ESU, ignited a media war between Wayne holdings Daily Planet and the Bugle.
The politicizing of the project put the Wayne Enterprises public relations team into a frenzy, with the end result being Bruce Wayne himself sitting in on the interview process for the ESU project.
Looking to secure a politically viable “dream team of superscience” (as coined by Bugle Editor in Chief J. Jonah Jameson), Wayne appointed Reed Richards to the lead operations, with Connors directly beneath him.
Richards immense salary along with Connors’ decreased clout within the project worried Parker, though Richards’ brother-in-law and longtime acquaintance of Parker’s Johnny Storm promised to put a good word in for him.
Parker’s interview went as well as he expected – Wayne, along with Richards and Wayne’s business associate Lucius Fox, questioned his spotty work history, why he had never taken a full-time position within his field of study and whether his relationship with the Bugle would prove an obstacle to keeping the progress of the research under wraps.
Parker fielded each question thoughfully offering candid and, in his estimation, satisfying responses. At the end of the interview, Parker stood up, thanked them and walked out.
Two weeks and zero phone calls later, Parker picked up a copy of the Bugle. The lead story listed the final lineup of Wayne’s research team: Richards, Connors, Xavier Institute wonderkund Hank McCoy, dynamic mathematician Michael Holt and female geneticist Moira McTaggert.
The next morning, Parker stumbled up the stairs to find a letter from Bruce Wayne nestled between bills. He opened it, hopeful that he had at least been offered lab work.
Wayne’s rejection could not have been more generic, his signature pre-printed with the letterhead. The least he could have done was sign his own name. Parker opened the newspaper to the classifieds and searched over cold coffee.

    Batman wins.

I content that Batman would win. Here’s why

    1) He has near indomitable will, and is able to use his force and fear in order to submit those of superior physical attributes to him.

    2) Batman has been, on numerous occasions, give Lantern Rings such as Green and Yellow thus endeavoring him with powers beyond mortal means.

    3) Batman has numerous advanced degrees, including chemistry, computing, and forensic science, mastered skills in many major forms of martial arts, escapist, linguist is able to build and maintain advanced technologies that are years ahead of mass market such as cars and main frames. Indeed, a full list of Batman’s skills and talents is so overdone, no other mere human could successfully learn that much in but 1 lifetime. Such is the power of his will and tenacity. http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Batman_(Bruce_Wayne)#Powers_and_Abilities

    4) His detective skills and ability of forethought border on prescience. Tower of Babel anyone?

    5) His physical strenght and agility are superior to most Olympic athletes as well as his genius level intellect. While human, I never argue Batman is not human, his so far above and beyond the average, and his unique combination he is not just human.

‎6) Batman’s interactions with so-called “Classic superheros” and (supervillians) clearly place him in the upper echelon. He is one of the Trinity of DC comics, with Superman and WOnderwoman, he is one of the key leaders of the Justice League as well as the lead defender of Gotham, a city of global importance. And he one of the only humans truly feared outside the solar system by such characters as Darkseid and Senestro.

While Spiderman has enhanced strength and agility, as well as his Spider Sense, Batman’s own Olympic level strength, Super Prepardness and Dominance of Will would over come them. That or his millions of dollars and advanced technology.

  • hobocore71

I think the winner depends mostly on terrain. If the fight was in an arena, Batman would win, whereas if it was in a city, I think Spiderman would have the upper hand.
Spiderman’s advantage is that he can change his elevation much easier than Batman can. Spiderman’s webbing can catch onto any wall, whereas Batman has more limitations. In an open-city fight, this would be an invaluable service. Spiderman could move in and out of open windows, up sky scrapers, basically moving faster than Batman and away from his attacks. Basically, Spiderman could go circles around Batman and take him down with some simple quick moves.
This is also assuming the bat-plane doesn’t have as much maneuverability in a tight-packed city, and the Batmobile provides little help against an enemy who can stay elevated much higher.
Now, in an enclosed arena, Batman wins hands-down. The proximity means that they are matched on abilities and strengths, not the ability to use the environment. Batman is much more ruthless in hand-to-hand combat and his utility belts contains items to overpower Spidey’s abilities (batarangs or the acetylene torch can cut through the web). Batman’s utility belt contains flash grenades, and Spiderman’s 20/20 vision has been shown to need hours to heal after a direct flash in the eyes. Batman could simply blind him and take him down.

It’s easy if you were to strip both of them naked and put them in the thunderdome spidy would come out on top every time. All he would have to do is climb to the top and web the crap out of him. Web chock from the celing= FATALITY done and done

I dont think batman needs to fight spidy to prove anything. Joker out of the asylum is simply just enough!

Do u really think its so difficult for a multi-billionaire to purchase a bug repellent or produce an anti-mutagen ?

How can u forget that batsy’s utility belt contains smoke pellets with anesthetic ? One dose of that and a lower upper cut on the chin would end everything!

Batsy is just cold blooded and always has his head in the game and for spidy its just too emotional of him to stay focused and concentrated while he has insecurities about MJ smooching some other guy!

On an ending note i just say let let the clown out of the cage and see a bug get crushed! At least we’ll get to see spidy smile with a mask on!

    hehehehehahahohohohoho…

and ppl say jokes can’t kill a bug!
