2010’s fall season has only just started, but people are already talking about what shows will be debuting this time next year – and, considering one of those features Avatar‘s James Cameron producing a television version of his 1994 spy comedy True Lies, maybe it’s with good reason.
Deadline Hollywood has the news that Cameron will re-team with Rene Echevarria for the new series, with Echevarria acting as showrunner while Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment co-produces with 20th Century Fox. The two had previously worked together on the Jessica Alba-starring Dark Angel, Cameron’s only other foray into television, which lasted from 2000-2002 on Fox. The 1994 original starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as an undercover spy who reveals all to his wife in an effort to save their marriage; if – and it’s really not much of an “if,” considering it’s James Cameron – the show gets picked up, it’ll join NBC’s Undercovers and USA’s Covert Affairs as spying-meets-domestic-reality dramedies, with ABC’s Alias also being rumored for a reboot. Maybe this is a new trend?
According to Deadline, the new series will be offered to networks soon.
