Rugged ‘Motorola Defy’ Android Phone Given Away by Oprah?

When you think about rugged cell phones, who’s the first celebrity that comes to mind? Yes, Oprah. Absolutely.

Motorola knows this and, as such, has apparently partnered with the queen of daytime television to promote the new Android-based Motorola Defy. I can’t bring myself to watch today’s show (human interest stories make me cry too easily) but word on the street is that she’ll probably be giving one of the handsets to each member in her audience.

The phone sports a 3.7-inch touchscreen made of Gorilla Glass, features Motorola’s social network-friendly MotoBlur custom interface, is dustproof and water resistant, and comes with Android 2.1 on board.

It’ll apparently also be available through T-Mobile in time for the holidays, though pricing hasn’t been set. If I had to guess, I’d peg it at around $150 with a two-year contract. Maybe less if T-Mobile and Motorola want to really push the thing out the door. Any more and it’ll be a tough sell but, hey, don’t underestimate the buying power of bajillions of Oprah fanatics.
