It makes sense to me that Facebook wouldn't want to build a "vertical" phone. I guess I'm still curious what the value is (for Facebook) in building deeper integration on mobile handsets? I have an Android phone now, which came with a Facebook app. Admittedly I don't use it much, but I'm pretty sure I've never seen an ad pop up on there while using it.

Just double checked, no ads that I can find. So where is Facebook making money on these devices? Are there apps that sit in (on?) Facebook like they do on Android? If so, do those apps sell ads? Does Facebook get a cut, or does Android? I don't get it.
