You may recall news of the larger-than-life Kno tablet from back in early June. It consists of two 14-inch color touchscreens, weighs 5.5 pounds, and wants to replace the need for college students to carry around textbooks.
The company is apparently also planning a single-screen version, according to CNET. Both models will reportedly be available for pre-order before the end of the year. Pricing hasn’t been set for the single-screen version, and the company plans to price the dual-screen version at under $1,000.
Now before you get all riled up about the thought of a 14-inch tablet, remember that the Kno’s main target market is college kids. Oh, and there’s no internet connection, which severely limits the device’s usefulness in anything other than an educational setting—perhaps even within an educational setting as well.
Company CEO Osman Rashid told CNET that the Kno is not meant to be a replacement for a laptop computer, instead emphasizing the tablet’s role as a replacement for textbooks: "We believe the laptop is becoming the new desktop. It is going to stay in your dorm or in your home. This is all you need to carry around."
