This is kind of inside baseball, but it’s a big deal in the tech blogging world: TechCrunch has just been acquired by AOL.

Financial details of the deal are unknown, but the acquisition specifies that “TechCrunch and its associated properties and conferences will join the AOL Technology Network while retaining their editorial independence.”

TechCrunch founder Mike Arrington said that he’ll stay on for at least three years, and AOL CEO Tim Armstrong said that his company will be leveraging TechCrunch content to bolster its technology coverage.

Peter and I worked at CrunchGear together (which is one of the TechCrunch sites) for a few years each before joining Techland. On behalf of him, congrats to everyone involved and best of luck in the future.
