It’s official: Zack Snyder will direct the next Superman movie for Warner Bros/DC Entertainment, and he’s already talking about it:

It’s early yet, but I can tell you that what David [Goyer, scriptwriter] and Chris [Nolan, producer] have done with the story so far definitely has given me a great insight into a way to make him feel modern. I’ve always felt he was kind of awesome. I’ll finish Sucker Punch and get right at it.

One of the ways to remind the world that he’s kind of awesome? Bring back the villain from the best of the old movies. /Film is reporting that its sources have confirmed that the villain of the new movie will be General Zod, of Superman II and recent-comic storyline New Krypton fame. There’s been no hint about what the storyline will be for the new movie, but Snyder told Variety that it’s unlikely that Brandon Routh will be returning to the role after 2006’s Superman Returns.
