For lots of people, the Final Fantasy series stands the cream of the crop of the RPG genre. The series has dozens of spinoffs and reboots from the time of the NES to the present-day, with the latest landing on the Nintendo DS. Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light comes from Matrix, the studio responsible for the DS ports of FF III and FF IV.

Out this week, 4 Heroes sports an 8-bit score and a cute, cel-shaded look, inspired by a Russian picture book. The gameplay is old-school JRPG, with turn-based combat, random monster encounters and a high degree of grinding required for leveling up your characters. But there are changes to the traditional JRPG formula, too. Classes are fluid in two ways. First, you’ll be able to acquire crowns, which are swappable hats that let you change class and abilities. So the Bandit crown lets steal items. You can then add gems for upgrades. Another way that 4 Heroes changes things up is by letting every character in your party use magic, as well as any weapon in the game. So, all of that means you can customize every character in the game in really unique ways.

So, you want to know how to win all that awesome-sounding gameplay? All you need to do is let us know what your favorite portable Final Fantasy game is and you’ll win a copy of FF: 4HoL for you and one for a friend. Contest ends at midnight tonight.
