As if Micro isn’t enough Smilin’ Stan Lee for you today, here’s what may be the most unexpected Stan story of recent times: Lee is teaming with the National Hockey League to create a different superhero for each of the 30 teams in the league to debut next year. And, oh, it gets odder. From the official press release:
Stan Lee’s vision for his latest superhero franchise, The Guardian Project, which will encompass the creation of 30 Guardians (one to represent each NHL team) as a new series of superheroes, with a creative concept that organically and authentically incorporates various NHL elements but is not set in the world of hockey… [E]ach Guardian has been derived from its corresponding hockey team, complete with special powers representative of each team and city.
The plan is to use the 87-year-old’s latest creations to bring tween boys to hockey through, and again I’m quoting, “a compelling tale of good vs. evil.” Although the 30 Guardians will remain under wraps until January 30th next year, attendees to tomorrow’s New York Comic-Con will be able to see a special teaser trailer during the Guardian Project panel at 4:45pm.
Sadly, Marvel are unlikely to allow a crossover with this particular member of Alpha Flight:
