I am currently in Lego League at my school and I'll have to say, the NXT robots are one of a kind. Our group will have paper out, writing down attachments and arguing over what will be best. I personally got to run a vote over which robot should win, the four wheeled Model T, or the 3 wheeled Lambo. The Model T won. But although we said the vote was done, we are now adding to robots and making them better. We now have a new robot called the shopping cart because it has to swivelling wheels in the front. Remember that we are a group of 10 6-8 grade kids. Who knows what things you can come up with, and what arguments you'll get, when you give a bunch of middle schoolers a Lego course, missions, and a simple motor controlled robot that you can program on.

My 7 year old twins are building their share of castles and battleships (both for high seas and deep space). These are not kits, and not "rectangularly bricky" (thanks to Bionicle parts and rotating/articulating pieces from Star Wars machines) but still not quite "out of the box" thinking. Making close to life size models of everyday things is cooler. One twin was grounded with no computer time until weekend, so he built Lego laptop, complete with closing lid, keyboard and sliding out dvd. But the coolest creations are super-minis that artistically inclined twin makes -- just a few pieces of unusual Lego shapes or a color pattern, just a quarter inch tall, but you see in them some uncanny resemblance to R2-D2 or Jabba or pod racer. It is the opposite to what "artists" do in Legoland -- a robot or a trained monkey could make a 6 feet tall computer-designed 3-D model, but it takes a real conceptual artist to see an essence of a thing it in a couple of small pieces.

By far this wasn't the most epic creation ever, but it was the longest lasting at my house. We used to have tons of Legos and one day I decided to build a video game organizer for my NES. It worked great, it was totally customizable, whenever I got new games or controllers I would just tear down the "box" and create a new one. The organizer lasted longer than the game system, I used it with the NES, Super and N64. I don't remember what happened to it, but with the mess that is currently around my PS3 and Wii, I could use another.

I volunteered to watch over my niece for a week about two months ago as my sister and brother-in-law were going to be outside of the country for research purposes. Finding out that she tires very quickly of watching TV, I dug out my old lego chest and started to build small things with her, starting from simple houses and shapes and gradually venturing into more complex projects until we ended up working on a massive Princess' Castle complete with a full royal court and guards which hardly fit on her dresser when she took it home at the end of the week. Just one of many great Lego memories.

Being given the ownership of the family lego collection, now contained in two tote boxes, has become a rite of passage in my family. My brother started the collection in the 80's, I was given and it and expanded it in the 90's. Now my brother's two boys are enjoying the family collection. In the next couple years when I have children I look forward to the collection being passed down to my kids.

Me I was always focused on two things, 1) what could I build combining legos with other found items, and 2)Building lego creations that could pass quality control tests. Being the budding engineer that I was, (now happily an R&D engineer for a major electronics company), I created test criteria for my builds. if it could not survive a 2 ft drop without major damage, I started the build over. My parents used to look at me like I was crazy. There are two builds that stand out as my favorites: I built a 4-ft long replica of a USS Ohio class missile submarine with working missiles that launched with springs I found in the garage and with working torpedos fashioned out of lincoln logs. The other was a Batmobile replica that I built using technics steering and suspension. The important lesson that I learned with this build that despite my QC tests, the lego Batmobile was unable to stand up to the thrust of the model rocket engine that I attempted to use as propulsion. My first and only foray into the world of melted lego blocks.

The coolest lego event I participated was when I was 8. The Atlanta Braves in the early 90's put on lego building contests at Fulton County Stadium. You were given a spot on the warning track in the outfield, a brown bag filled with random legos, and 2 hours to built the wildest creation you could. To be 8 years old and build legos on the field your favorite ball team played on and to have the awards given out by Hank Aaron ranks as one of the coolest memories of my childhood.

I can't wait to create lego memories with my own kids.

Haha, omg talk about this bringing back memories! The best creation a friend and I had made a top secret military base that had only one entrance, which was riddled with traps and tricks to get all the way in and to protect the treasure that the military was holding on to. It was probably the most epic base ever. And of course we had to have an evil group that wanted to break in and steal the top secret items. Long story short...we didn't have the coolest of lego pieces, so the treasure was actually a gold racing helmet and a shark. LOL!!! And I think we got the idea from some movie we watched. Maybe a 007 Bond flick.

when I was young, my sister and I were both terrible at building Lego structures, from houses to figures. My sister was about 5 years old and I was three years old at the time. We had no clue how to stack the Legos on top of each other and it was absolutely frustrating.

one day, our cousin came to visit us. He went to college in Asia and hadn't seen us in quite a while. My dad is a huge Star Wars fan, and I remember him showing us pictures of the many ships in the films. At that time, I was too young to watch the movies, but the pictures intrigued me. I loved everything about Star Wars, without even ever watching the films.

My cousin, knowing that I loved Star Wars, decided to help my sister and I build the Millennium Falcon. It was a memory I will never forget. He, being an engineering major, helped my sister and I through each step. He told us where to put the pieces and everything needed to construct the Falcon. After spending countless hours building the model, we finally finished building the spaceship. It was spectacular, and I remember being so proud of myself. It was a truly, unforgettable memory of Legos.

I don't have an epic story to tell but my brother and I used to have tubs full of legos and we mainly built vehicles out of them. We would mix normal legos with some erecter sets to make steering columns so we could actually turn the wheels n' stuff.

It was tons of fun and eventually my brother grew up to become a successful mechanic in RL. :D

Once, we built a large scale version of our own neighborhood and ran a hot wheels track through it! Great memories, I'd like to win this game as a gift for my nephew.

I'm big into musicals and theater. Well over this past summer I was in an outdoor theater production of Jesus Christ Superstar. I was really involved with the show and helped build/paint a lot of the one set piece that we had (a giant broken down piece of highway, with a culvert, a balcony, a giant iron cross, and rubble and trash everywhere) Well I got bored one afternoon and came across my Legos. I took a couple pieces and mashed them together, and somehow, I got the idea of building a replica of the set piece out of Legos! At first I made a crude version of just the main highway piece, but the next day, I went all out, dug up countless ancient pieces, and even deconstructed a couple completed sets just so I could use the right bricks for the job. The replica was so alike the original! I received a lot of acclamations from my cast mates and even gained the recognition of our set designer who included pics of my Lego version in her portfolio! For being a two afternoon project, I felt truly honored.

My 6 year old son always enjoyed playing with his legos. He has made some of the craziest, most elaborate things I've ever seen. One thing that he made stood out. He grabbed some giant wheels from an old set of mine when I was a kid, and went about building an entire house from scratch on top. The house came complete with working lights (thanks to one of my lego police cars from the 80's), satellite dish, a seat on the front for a gunner to use his homemade lego laser gun. As well, he had built a ramp on the inside so his lego men could go on the roof of the house. He even segmented the inside of the house into seperate rooms. He used some tubes from my old pneumatic set to build elaborate piping on the outside that he said housed all the electrical wiring for his house. The craziest thing was that he was only 5 years old when he made this.

I managed to get him into the LEGO Universe beta over the summer. He played that game non-stop, and is still talking about it all the time. I know he'd love to get a copy of it!

My 6 year old son always enjoyed playing with his legos. He has made some of the craziest, most elaborate things I’ve ever seen. One thing that he made stood out. He grabbed some giant wheels from an old set of mine when I was a kid, and went about building an entire house from scratch on top. The house came complete with working lights (thanks to one of my lego police cars from the 80′s), satellite dish, a seat on the front for a gunner to use his homemade lego laser gun. As well, he had built a ramp on the inside so his lego men could go on the roof of the house. He even segmented the inside of the house into seperate rooms.
Before there were Star Wars Legos for sale, my sister and I created a Jabba's Palace (from ROTJ) from scratch shortly after the original trilogy was re-released. We had to make all the movie characters from regular Lego people/pieces including C-3PO (using stickers on a yellow body), Jabba and the Rancor (from brown blocks), Twilek interpreter and dancers (with a flag on a normal Lego head), Boba Fett (with a camping backpack and medieval helmet) and a detachable carbonite-frozen Han Solo. We created all the details from the movie including a working trap door to the Rancor pit, the droid being "tortured" in the droid scrap room, Jabba's yacht above the sarlaac pit, and even that creepy brain/spider thing that's shown in the background for a few seconds at the beginning of the movie. Now that I've seen the official Jabba's Palace set in stores today, I know ours was much better and much more fun to make.

I remember as a kid we had to make a diorama for a book report in some class. Instead of doing the old shoebox method, I constructed the entire thing, including the box, out of Legos... It was epic, if I do say so myself...

When we first started to play warhammer 40.000k as kids we didnt have any terrain to use for our boards but we had tons of legos. We had a whole village and the a mountain that was a horrible mashup of random bricks. Is was great having these little badass miniatures duke it out over what amounted to a rainbow village and candy mountain!

I never got the sets as a kid, and I was semi-obsessed with the US military as a kid. So over the span of weeks, I built army, navy, and air force planes, boats and guns.

After about two months, I had nearly 25 different weapons and vehicles. I then split them into two teams and had a two hour battle where both sides were left in destruction.

My two kids and I took two big bins of Legos and made all the buildings from Harry Potter. We didn't have any of the HP kits, we made them all from scratch. And we converted our Star Wars Lego people into Harry Potter characters. We made Hagrid's Hut, Hogwarts, 4 Privet Drive, Three Broomsticks, etc. Great time with my kids!

Growing up, my brother and I would try to re-create the world around us in LEGO. One time, we decided to re-created Bronner's in Frankenmuth, MI. For those who don't know, Bronner's is the world's largest Christmas Store (see http://www.bronners.com/ for more information). The place is massive and all around it are out door Christmas decorations fit for large-scale commercial organizations. We built a massive building to house the Christmas Store and then set up a complex road-grid around it full of the various Christmas LEGO sets one could purchase (i.e. snowman, Santa, Christmas Tree, etc...). We built our buildings and even lit up our classic LEGO lights to create a full Christmas display. When all was said and done, we did a pretty good job of re-creating it as well as an excellent job of covering our entire family room floor with our LEGO creation.
