Not A Joke, Not An Imaginary Story: Zombie Jesus

Well, okay, it’s an imaginary story. But Rob Liefeld, creator of two of Marvel’s last two big hit characters Deadpool and Cable (Someone, please: Prove me wrong), really has started work on a webcomic based on the idea that, between Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection, Earth was invaded by zombies, and apparently not as some kind of weird meta joke. Sure, he’s basing it on the Bible (Specifically, Matthew 27:51-52: “The earth shook, the rocks broke and tombs opened and many men and women who had died came back to life again. They left the cemetery and went into the city and appeared to many people there”), but he’s still the one who came up with this synopsis:

The most disturbing scripture in the Bible revealed! Zombies walked the earth following the crucifixion of Christ! Now the 48 hours following Christ’s Death are revealed!

After the crucifixion, supernatural warfare tore apart the Roman Provinces. Zombie Hordes attacked Jerusalem in search of the corpse of Christ. The Disciples were under siege as the Undead tore apart the countryside and an unlikely hero, LAZARUS THE IMMORTAL emerged to combat the Legion of Dead!

It looks a little something like this:

In case anyone thinks that this really is just a joke, it’s worth remembering that Liefeld is the son of an ordained minister, a committed Christian and someone who’s already produced work based around his faith. Then again, he’s also the man behind things like this, so it might just be that his faith is open to some interesting departures from scripture.
