Interview: Peter Molyneux Talks Fable III

At about 1:30 in the video below, you’ll notice that Peter Molyneux makes a Batman reference. That’s because Peter Molyneux and I always wind up talking comics. When I first met Molyneux during a press tour for the first Fable, we wound up talking about Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s Preacher. And, most recently, he talked about a battle between Superman and Dr. Doom to illustrate another game idea he’d had long ago

This time around, I gave him collections of Grant Morrison’s Final Crisis and Batwoman: Elegy by Greg Rucka and J.H. Williams. Turns out that Batman served as a big inspiration for Fable III, which also has you as an outsider trying to change society from the fringes. Molyneux talks about that and the other inspirations for Fable III in this interview.

[Note: This interview was conducted before the release of Fable III and before the cancellation of Project Milo.]

If you ever get to interview him again please ask where all the fable went from fable 3. Almost all the awesome unique stuff that made fable 1 and 2 awesome are gone! Everything is so simplified and the only huge new feature is a menu system that does nothing more than add tedious layers to managing your character. Why peter! WHY! sob…
