Fallout Parent Company Acquires Studio of Resident Evil Creator

ZeniMax Media–the company that owns Fallout: New Vegas publisher Bethesda Softworks–announced the acquisition of Tango Gameworks, the development studio founded by Shinji Mikami.

Mikami’s best known for creating the Resident Evil franchise, which resurrected the survival horror genre with the series’ first game appeared on PlayStation two decades ao. Most recently, he worked on the over-the-top, sci-fi shooter Vanquish, just released by Sega last week.

No info’s forthcoming on what Mikami will be working on It’s not clear how the Tango acquisition will affect his involvement in the development of Shadow of the Damned. The horror action title Mikami and Goichi Suda are making for EA was announced at this year’s Tokyo Game Show. The Mikami deal is only the latest in a string of high-profile purchases from ZeniMax, as they also own Bethesda, Arx Fatalis dev studio Arkane and id Software. Adding a Japanese dev studio to their portfolio only extends the breadth of ZeniMax will be able to publish and one can only hope that the creative forces behind each member studio will get to collaborate on projects in the future. In other words, start in on that post-apocalyptic, inventive weaponry  survival zombie RPG now, please.
