And Now You Can Begin Your Dark Tower Countdown…

Remember Ron Howard and Akiva Goldsman’s ambitious cross-media adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, that’ll begin with a movie, then run as a television series for a year before a second movie, then back to television, and so on? Well, now we know that it’s all official and really happening, because Universal has announced the release date of the first movie.

Right at the end of a list of Universal’s “tentpole” releases of the next few years – which also offers up dates for Ouija, apparently a Hasbro co-production, and Snow White And The Huntsman, amongst others – is the announcement that The Dark Tower will be released on Friday, May 17, 2013. Presumably, the television series continuation will begin the following fall season, probably on NBC (Due to the corporate connection between NBC and Universal, although Syfy is always an option). Yes, it’s more than two years away, but still: Time to get excited.

I don’t think there’s going to be any time between when the movie comes out and a few months later to start doing 13 episodes–May, movie to Sept, Tv show is way too short. If they do 13 episodes of the series, or however many they said, it could be on Jan of the next year, or summer of the following year. Point is that they should take their time to insure quality. Don’t rush it.

I really hope they do the books justice, since they’re like Stephen King’s magnum opus.
