2012’s Emmerich Signs On For Cheap Alien Invasion Flick

It may be hard to tell when the “found footage” genre movie genre has gone too far, but I’d argue that “When Roland Emmerich decides to make one” might be a good guess. Emmerich – The man behind such low budget movies as Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow and 2012 is reportedly preparing to shoot The Zone, an alien invasion movie that will apparently be “improv-based and cast with relative unknowns,” according to the Hollywood Reporter. More surprisingly, the entire budget for the movie is said to be under $5 million, all the more amazing when you consider that the much-lauded “cheap” District 9 cost $30 million to make. Either this will be a movie where you never see the aliens, the aliens look exactly like human beings or, perhaps, it might have some of the worst special effects seen in years. Whichever it is, The Zone already seems like a must-see for curiosity value alone.
