Exclusive Preview: How to Understand Israel in 60 Days or Less

In 2007, Sarah Glidden went on a Birthright Israel trip–a short tour of Israel offered to young Jewish Americans–to get a better understanding of a country she was deeply skeptical about. On her return, she started recounting her experiences in minicomics form. The first few self-published issues of How to Understand Israel in 60 Days or Less created an enormous buzz; once it was signed up by Vertigo, she ended up rewriting and drawing the full-length book version from scratch. How to Understand Israel comes out this Wednesday, and we’ve got an exclusive preview of it–a sequence in which Glidden visits the Old City of Jerusalem. Look for our interview with Glidden on Techland later this week.

Oh come on, web monkeys! The second page is slightly more art, and no more text, than the first?

Screw it. When did Time become this low-rent page-view-focused entity? (Rhetorical question. I remember it.)

Heck, Topless Robot and Cracked have more integrity with their multi page articles. They do two, max.

Sarah Glidden’s work has managed to appear on my radar but I’ve yet to seek anything out. Like a wig made out of lasers, this series seemed like something that I would be very into but somehow not at the same time.

I’m looking forward to the review and further insight so that I might decide when and if I’ll read it.
