Welcome to the Loadout. Our philosophy is that the working week is a recurring boss battle that you’ll need the proper weapons to take down. The supplies at hand won’t always be pretty but you might just be able to hold out until the weekend. Green means add it to your arsenal, yellow leaves it up to your discretion and red means back away slowly. With that, let’s see what we’ve got this week:

The Game: Patapon 3

Specifications: One of the best franchises to originate on the PSP returns with its addictive button-beat combat intact. The newest version of the hybrid rhythm/strategy series brings online support for up to eight players and let you create an all-new Superhero Patapon who leads his brethren into battle.

Ideal Usage Scenario: Playing Patapon solo was always fun, but everything changes when you add other people. You can play the game’s Quest mode cooperatively with four players or build a clan of eight and do battle against other Patapon commanders. Either way, Patapon 3 improves upon the unique and fun mechanics that the series is known for.

The Game: James Bond: Goldeneye 007

Specifications: The classic N64 FPS returns with a graphical upgrade and modernized presentation. Daniel Craig Craig takes over as Bond, with an assist from Judi Dench’s M in this 2010 re-imagining of the Goldeneye movie. This version also boasts online multiplayer so you and your friends can battles as Jaws, Odd Job, Scaramanga or anyone else from a list of eight classic Bond characters.

Ideal Usage Scenario: If you nearly flunked out of school because of epic Goldeneye sessions, nostalgia may be the primary motivation for you to pick this one up. Still, this updated game is well-executed nostalgia, with a few new wrinkles. And that golden Wii Classic Controller will let everyone know who’s boss when the deathmatches start.

The Game: God of War: Ghost of Sparta

Specifications: Gamers will get a deeper glimpse into Kratos’ haunted past as this new game reveals the fate of the man-turned-god’s long-lost brother. New magic attacks and new ranged combat options make this a fresh-feeling return to the God of War world.

Ideal Usage Scenario: Games like Ghost of Sparta are why you haven’t traded in your PSP yet. From graphics to control, the unholy carnage Kratos wreaks on Greco-Roman mythological figures is the closest thing you can get to a full console experience on a handheld. And if you’re in the market for new PSP hardware, there’s a God of War bundle with a snazzy special edition PSP.
