Starting Thursday, Verizon will be taking orders for the Samsung Continuum. It’s a $200 Android phone based on Samsung’s line of Galaxy S handsets.
The Continuum breaks the mold by featuring two LCD screens: a 3.4-inch main screen sits above a 1.8-inch “dedicated ticker display that streams customized information in real time,” according to Verizon’s press release.
In order to preserve battery life, the ticker display turns itself off when not in use but can be activated by simply touching the “Grip Sensor” located on the bottom sides of the phone.
The ticker is capable of displaying weather information, updates from social networks, instant messages, e-mail, and music playback functions.
Other features include a 1GHz processor, 5-megapixel camera, Android 2.1 operating system, and an included 8GB microSD card that can be swapped out with a card up to 32GB in size.
Orders begin this Thursday, with availability in retail stores coming on November 18th. The phone will cost $200 after a $100 mail-in rebate and a new two-year contract.
