Green Lantern Trailer Hits, And Is – Okay, Maybe?

The first trailer for DC Entertainment’s much-anticipated Green Lantern is out, and it’s… Well, I’m not entirely sure what it is, to be honest. For a movie with so much riding on it – Merely the hopes and dreams of both DC and DC fanboys, for whom nothing short of “Better than Iron Man” will be good enough – this is a curiously underwhelming trailer, even though it clearly tries to dazzle, with shots of fan favorites Kilowog, Sinestro and the large-headed Hector Hammond all making it in. A sign that the movie itself won’t be that impressive, or that the truly great stuff is being saved until later trailers? I’d bet on the latter more than than former – If nothing else, we know that Parallax, the GL mythos’ personification of fear itself, is still out there unseen. But what do you think?

The title at the end reminded me of dark knight. It looks like a fun movie, but I might enjoy it less knowing that it delayed/cancelled the deadpool movie.

That’s a sexy ring. I wonder how long ’til you can get one.

Looks good to me, shows they got the origin right and teases with a lot of elements without giving away what the story will be.

I think it looks good expect for 2 things:

    - Blake Lively’s delivery is more wooden than Pinocchio’s pecker

    - I like Ryan Reynolds but I’ll be REALLY disappointed if the wise-assy-ness they show here is a constant throughout the whole movie

I like the suit (the mask looks a bit weird though). sinestro, Kilwog, Abin Sur, Hector Hammond, they all look great. It looks like they got the scope of the film right. It’s not a knock out trailer but it’s left me wanting to see more.

Disappointing for exactly the reason you point out: so much riding on this.

Effects look cheap (maybe they’re not done?) and the cgi Kilowog, etc., look very cgi. Blake Lively is a disaster.

Reynolds doesn’t seem to have Hal down. This is the same guy he plays in every movie.

This thing needs a lot of polish.

I’ve heard the “Effects not done” from a couple different sources and I’m inclined to believe that. Since so much of the movie is going to be CGI I’m guessing they’ll be working up to the last minute fine-tuning and tweaking the effects, which can only be to the good.

Honestly, I’m happy that they didn’t put the whole movie into the trailer like so many other movies do. I really hate it when all the best jokes or images from a movie get plastered all over the place with the trailers, so that by the time you go see the movie you’ve felt like you’ve already seen the movie.

That being said, the few parts we’ve seen give me some hope that this will be pretty good

Looks a bit underrated to me, but who really knows? I’ll still see it in theatres.

Pretty sure the writers are saving Parallax for the 2nd sequel or something, because they would never give it all away too early, particular for an origins-based plot.

That being said, the characters looked ok as far as I can tell, though I am skirmish on Lively’s acting. And Reynold’s acting (I really hope he doesn’t bring his slightly rom-com typecast into this…).

Costume looks kinda lame. I think it looks worse than when they had it on the cover of Entertainment Weekly.
