Apple’s latest operating system for iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch is available today. While iOS 4.2, as it’s called, touts several minor updates for iPhone and iPod Touch, iPad users get a handful of major new features.

The new software brings multitasking to the iPad, a feature that’s been available on the iPhone for a while now, as well as the ability to group apps into folders for organizational purposes. Apple’s AirPrint function is now in tow, which facilitates wireless printing to compatible Wi-Fi printers from HP. (More on Time.com: Apple’s Hits and Misses So Far)

Apple TV owners can sling music and video files directly from an iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch to an Apple TV box using the new “AirPlay” feature, making it easy to begin watching something on a portable device and finish watching it on a TV.

Current generation iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad owners also now have free access to remote location services should a device get lost or stolen. You can display its location on a map and, if needed, remotely lock it or even delete all its memory.

Other new features include Game Center, iTunes TV show rentals, unified e-mail inbox, Safari text search, and several other minor enhancements and updates. The software can be downloaded using the latest version of iTunes.
