Spider-Man Musical Gets Hung Up On Opening Troubles

Given all of the problems its had to deal with so far, what were the odds that Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark‘s opening preview night went off without a hitch? Let’s ask the New York Post’s Michael Riedel, who was there:

At various points, overhead stage wires dropped on the audience, scenery appeared on stage missing pieces — and the show’s star was even left swaying helplessly over them midair during what was supposed to be the climatic end to the first act.
Oh, ouch.
The show – which ran for roughly 3 and a half hours – had to be stopped multiple times to deal with technical malfunctions and difficulties, including both Reeve Carney and Natalie Mendoza being trapped in the air as wirework went wrong, as well as actors missing cues. Despite these missteps – which has already led to the show being called a flop by many – a spokesman for the show said that previews will continue as planned, and that “cast and crew were thrilled to play the show in front of their first audience last night.” Well, not as thrilled as they would’ve been if everything had gone well, of course…
