For a long time, it may have seemed as if Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit was never going to actually happen, but now we not only know the identities of the main cast, but also who makes the cameras that the movies will be shot with. Red Digital Cameras has announced that Jackson will use “at least” thirty of the company’s new Epic Digital cameras to shoot both movies in 3D.

The company quotes Jackson as saying,

I’m not a scientist or mathematician, but the image Red produces has a much more filmic feel than most of the other digital formats. I find the picture quality appealing and attractive, and with the Epic, Jim [Jannard, Red founder and owner] and his team have gone even further.

The Hobbit will start shooting next year in New Zealand.
