At the end of the first volume of Jeff Lemire’s post-apocalyptic road-buddy adventure Sweet Tooth, the candy-loving, antlered young man Gus had apparently been sold out by his mammoth, violent pal Jepperd. The second volume, In Captivity, hits bookstores this week; courtesy of Vertigo, we’ve got a preview of its opening sequence, in which we learn a bit about Jepperd’s past life as a hockey player. Process fiends may want to have a look at a recent Lemire post over at Vertigo’s blog, in which we get to see an uncaptioned, uncolored version of this scene–and find out why the hockey player Jepperd is walloping is indie-comics star Jeffrey Brown.
