The Wikileaks saga for freedom of the press will continue now that Apple has banned the Wikileaks App from their store. Apple claims that the app violated the law and could potentially put some people at risk. Here’s the cache since the App Store site is no longer available.

“We removed the WikiLeaks app from the App Store because it violated our developer guidelines,” an Apple spokeswoman told Wired’s Threat Level. “Apps must comply with all local laws and may not put an individual or targeted group in harm’s way.”

While some might argue whether or not Wikileaks is unveiling vital and revolutionary material, the app didn’t exactly provide anything different from what you could find on the web or on your mobile browser. For $1.99, you get a direct link to WikiLeaks’ Twitter feed and hashtag-search and another to the official website. So, in essence, Apple hasn’t blocked Wikileaks for their users, just showed off that they strongly disprove of their behavior.
