I concur with chimparzan…Ubidoob, your argument couldn’t crush a grape in a food fight. If XBox is just a “flavor of the week” than you’d better make room on your pallette because it’s not going anywhere. One would say that you defending your precious PS like the analogies you provided. Not really because it’s the cool thing to do, but because you chose to do it when it was the new thing and now you’re just sticking to your guns. I’m an XBox owner, but not extreme enough to be considered a fanboy. PS has it’s God of War, but many games are coming out on multiple platforms that give similar (almost too similar) experiences/gameplay. Xbox doesn’t have the BluRay (not “BLUERAY”) which is pretty much, IMO, one of Sony’s biggest selling points. Sony doesn’t really sell primarily because of the games it puts out. It sells because of the BluRay, the loyal following, THAN the games (followed somewhat by anti-Microsoft gamers).

Personally the last console I’ve ever owned was a family computer then the PC became available to the common people and became a PC gamer ever since. I’ve been playing PS2/PS3/PSP/WII from my friends in the military and I like how they have improved the graphics but it’s not enough to get me hooked because PC games have better graphics. But when I saw the xbox 360 kinect, I saw a better gaming experience. of course it just launched and there is only a couple of games that works great with kinect. I bought xbox 360 slim + kinect because it will get you off your couch and actually play the game. I can’t wait to see an FPS game for the kinect of course driving sim and flying sim should be left to the controller because there is no point of playing it with kinect. But imagine playing Street fighter, Final Fantasy, counter strike, halo, but of course only 1-2 players at a time. I am not a fan boy because I only owned the 360 for less than a week but I am totally impressed with the technology that they came out with and how MS got FF to come out on 360. Sony saw how the consumers liked the WII controller so they came out with the move but come on get some originality. accelerometer vs gyro – errr.

360 + kinect + PC with blu-ray + HDMI + 46in LED = good entertainment?
PS. what the hell is a REAL GAMER? what are you 12?
PS3 for a blu-ray player, come on now. I would rather get a $50.00 blu-ray player.

@kinglou801 i agree who buys a ps3 to play ps2, i have a 60gb system and I’m a “hardcore” gamer and i collect rare ps2 games…. but when i want to play them i use a ps2 on an old tv so it doesnt look like crap. ps3 backwards compatibility really sucks on hd tvs, it looks all muddy and blurry, so why even have it.

Umm I love my Playstation 3 and I do hope that it lasts into 2016 range for an end because I love the system personally. As of the past 4 years I will admit the selection was light. Uncharted and modern warfare was its drive force in the online market. Well also Bad company 2 and medal of honor(not to mention infinity ward will do the next medal of honor). Playstation though will repent from its evil ways and bring up a storm of new games coming in 2011. About 14 exclusives are to be next year on the thing. If this year doesnt do it then and there is strong support it will, then no year will beat the 360. Move btw has topped 5 million(about 4 million peripheral) in sales. Xbox is about the same(2 million peripherals). Meaning the driving force of Move is behind the ability if you want it approach. Either way Wii is going probably hit 100 million by 2013. Will xbox 360 or ps3?

I am what you would call a ‘Hard Core Gamer’ so I own both; Xbox is good for Sports games and a dedicated network is a plus, but at $50 per year I dont think it’s THAT much better than PS3′s. I bought the Kinect, I wouldn’t go as far to call it a “game changer”. Gamers are not going to abandon their controllers for Children’s and Dance games. Real gamers play sports games and shooters, and Motion Sensing games wont be anywhere near responsive enough for those in the foreseeable future. I think since BlueRay and gaming are becoming more and more popular each day, people will skip buying an Xbox and BlueRay separate and go with the PS3…

Michele, your story makes the premise that the PS3 will beat out the XBox because it is more popular overseas, which is true. Bet then you try to make the case that it is a false premise because, “They’ve [XBox] sold more units than the PS3 for six consecutive months.”

Did you follow your own link to those NPD numbers? If you did, you would see that the numbers are for US sales and not worldwide sales. The PS3 still sells more units worldwide than the XBox.

Sony for the win. Microsoft is the rich kid who walked into the room and tried to buy a piece of the market.

Microsoft has some great games(Halo and Fable) that make me want to own an Xbox to someday play- but it’s all about the Playstation. Xbox is to console players what Billabong/AE/Aeropostale are for kids that want to be popular or what the iPhone is for hipsters that are dying to show how unique and against the flow they are- by owning every hip and cool flavor of the week as soon as it rolls out. Nothing says individual like trying to dress the same while talking in your identical phones…

Any gamers out there who were gamers before the original Xbox came out that really think the 360 is superior to the PS3 or PC? I’ve never met a PS3 owner who wishes they had a 360 instead but I know 360 owners who would rather own a PS3. All the gamer types I know who pre-date the original Xbox are either PS3 gamers or PC gamers today. None “saw the light” and bought into the Xbox hype (except to compliment their other consoles or as a huge doorstop. The original Xbox was a beast…)

Or you could just own both so you get all the titles… I bought the original Xbox after I had my PS2 for awhile and now that I’ve had my PS3 for awhile, I imagine I’ll end up with a 360 by next spring. Their bundles and pricing are getting more and more tempting.

1.) PS3
2.) 360
3.) Everything else…

PS3 might outsell the Xbox, but it might just be because of a better marketing campaign. Not because it is better. The biggest game changer, The Kinect. Xbox Live is better. Who cares if it has a blu ray? If you like movies, you are probably going to get a better blu ray then what is in the PS3.

They said PS3 would take over when Blu-Ray won the HD race…. I think the Kinect has launched the Xbox into a whole new lead. It’s just more fun without hands. :D

The problem with the ps3 doing everything is that it doesnt do everything well. My ps3 has mainly been used as a blu ray because even though it can go online and play games my pc does better online and my xbox does games better. I would say xbox live is the biggest seller for xbox, if you play multiplayer games there is no contest.

Sony’s marking strategy that the PS3 “does everything” is a farce when IT DOESN’T PLAY PS2 GAMES. That functionality – backwards compatibility – would fall under the “doing everything” category for a game console.

I’m a huge PlayStation supporter, but that slogan annoys me to no end.
