From that point on I downloaded ‘AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition’ and never got a virus or a attack of malware!

We have been using Avast for the last few years with no problems whatsoever.

Re: Them basically stealing from you, I reckon you’ve probably got a case against them. As you say, the software ‘checks in’ with the home server once a day, there is no way they couldn’t have known that you had uninstalled it. Plus, given that they’re a SOFTWARE company, you’d think it would be simple enough to write a code that would AUTOMATICALLY stop charging people when the software doesn’t check in for a certain period. Oh, no sorry I forgot – that would mean they wouldn’t get to steal from you!

I always hated McAfee actually. Of course, I learned to hate Norton’s as well. Especially after Norton’s “system works” clogged our machines and gummed up the “works”. MicroSoft has finally come out with a really decent product – Windows Security Essentials, which I put on all our machines – and it’s FREE! And it *should* be free as part of the OS. Before that I was using Avast which was pretty good too, but you have the pain-in-the-a*** factor of annual “license renewal”s, even if it was a free renewal. Unfortunately, corporate America has become completely subsumed by greed of the most egregious kind, and McAfee represents the worst of corporate America as evidenced by your account.
