The PS3 exclusive inFamous games wear the influence of superhero comics more strongly than most video games. Series hero Cole McGrath gets a classic superhero origin story–where the blast that destroys much of his city also endows him with electromagnetic powers– and the cutscenes in the first game unfolded in panels like those found in comic books.

Now, the Sucker Punch dev studio that makes the games and DC Comics are teaming up to make the comic-book connect more explicit. A new miniseries will bridge the gap between inFamous 1 and the sequel due out next year:

Sucker Punch continues Cole’s story in inFAMOUS 2.  Offering a more emotional and powerful point of view on the true superhero experience, inFAMOUS 2 finds Cole battling a new evil, known only as “The Beast.”  Cole barely survives a tangle with “The Beast” in Empire City and flees to the historic Southern city of New Marais in search of the key to destroying this new darkness.  He must learn to control his evolving powers and once again choose to be righteous or infamous.  inFAMOUS 2 will be available exclusively for the PlayStation®3 (PS3™) system in 2011.

DC’s continuing a long history of publishing titles based on video game characters, with Gears of War, Call of Duty, God of War and World of Warcraft all having come out from the House of Superman. The inFamous comic starts in March 2011 and will be available in comic shops and for download on playstationcomics.com.
