Someday we’ll all look back on the Great Holiday Blizzard of 2010 and laugh. Some of us more maniacally than others. Those of us trapped in Minnesota until what seems like the end of time, especially.

“You’ll be on the next flight out,” says Delta. “It’s a sure thing,” says Delta. “Nothing we ever tell you is a sure thing,” says Delta. “We aren’t responsible for two of our service reps and a supervisor promising that you’ll get home,” says Delta. “It’s opposite day,” says Delta. “Sir, stop crying or we’ll charge you a crying fee,” says Delta.

So for those of you trapped in New York, you might as well stay there for New Year’s Eve. And for those of you trying to get to New York, you probably won’t show up until New Year’s Eve so you might as well head straight for Times Square. While you’re waiting, you may want to go ahead and download the Times Square Official New Year’s Eve Ball App. It’s free for iPhone and Android.

Use it for practical things like weather updates, a map of Times Square, news pertaining to the event, and historical information. Then use it for quasi-practical things like uploading your New Year’s Eve photos for possible display on the Toshiba Vision Sign in Times Square. Then use it for totally impractical things like sending virtual kisses to people you know.

You can also use the app to stream live video of the event and celebrate hourly countdowns from around the globe. And of course it’s got the requisite social networking features built in so you can update Twitter, Facebook, and Foursquare directly from the app.
