According to records released by GfK Retail and Technology, digital camera sales have increased by a wide margin in emerging markets for the first three quarters of 2010. Sales in countries in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and in the Asia-Pacific region rose about 20 percent with the biggest sector in growth found in China and Asia. Fourth quarter results are not expected to show a decline. The company adds digital picture recording devices are seeing an overall boom, especially with those with video capabilities. Multi-media cameras are especially popular in Western Europe’s emerging markets because of their capabilities to connect to social media sites like Twitter and Facebook.

Meanwhile, overall digital camera sales have dropped two percent in the US, which GfK attributes to the recession.
