According to eBay, online shopping on your computer is so 2009.

The company announced this morning that its gross merchandise volume in global mobile sales has tripled from $600 million in 2009 to $2 billion in 2010. eBay also added that its mobile apps have been downloaded over 30 million times in eight different languages and over 190 countries.

The United Kingdom and Germany led the way this year with the most purchases on eBay mobile, together taking up about a third of the total number. In the U.S., the top five categories ranked by number of items sold through the mobile app were clothing, shoes & accessories; cell phones & PDAs; collectibles; jewelry & watches and toys & hobbies.

“It’s staggering to think that $2 billion worth of sales has been generated through a platform that didn’t exist a couple of years ago, and on a device that didn’t exist three years ago,” said VP of eBay Europe Clare Gilmartin in a statement.

With the recent hiring of Lucky magazine’s Creative Director Andrea Linett as the creative director of eBay Fashion, Techland is looking forward to seeing what the company does next.
