The once-rumored Facebook phone is coming (and it’s actually two phones). As the most recent rumors correctly indicated, the handsets come from London-based INQ Mobile and are “the result of close collaboration with Facebook,” according to the company’s press release.
The INQ Cloud Touch will be the first phone out of the gate. It’s running Android 2.2 and features a 3.5-inch touchscreen and a 600-megahertz processor. It’ll be available in the sometime in the second quarter.
The third quarter will bring the INQ Cloud Q, a 2.6-inch Android handset. Both phones will be available at The Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy locations in the U.K. There’s no word on U.S. availability.
The phones are “built for people worldwide who use Facebook as their primary means of communication,” with most main functions acting as direct extensions of Facebook features—chat, messaging, calendar, and contacts. Spotify will be the default music player.
Per the press release:
“The homescreen is a visual Facebook feed for clicking through friends’ updates, pictures, videos and web pages. There are one-touch links to Facebook Chat, Friends, Messages, Wall and Notifications. Facebook Single Sign On is activated across the phones and people can check in to their favorite shops, restaurants and clubs with Facebook Places, also active on the homescreen. Facebook Events fully integrates with the Google Calendar on both devices.”
The press release doesn’t give any official pricing, though PCWorld says the Cloud Touch will be free with a monthly contract, according to INQ.
It’s unknown whether these phones would ever make it to the U.S.—there aren’t any INQ handsets available here—but previous rumors indicate that AT&T may have shown some interest, so we’ll see if anything materializes.
