Browser Extension Lets You Block Sites from Google Results

Sick of Google telling you what to read all the time? There’s now an extension for the company’s Chrome web browser called Personal Blocklist that allows you to oust sites you don’t want showing up in your search results.

Once installed, each search result will contain a link to block its associated site from showing up next time. Your blocked sites can be unblocked from within the extension’s settings or by clicking a link at the bottom of your search results that’ll show up when certain sites have been blocked.

Information about blocked sites is also sent to Google, which should theoretically help search results get better for everyone over time.

My favorite Chrome extension is PriceBlink (http://bit.ly/chEB02). It’s also available for Firefox (http://bit.ly/byraRD) and Safari. It does real-time price comparisons in the background while you shop.

Only a few hours after Google announced its Personal Blocklist, a developer in Utah built an extension that extends this same blocking capabilities across Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer, and across the Google, Yahoo and Ping search engines. The Google extension only worked with Chrome.

It doesn’t send the information back to Google (at least not yet) but it will clean up your feeds across all three browsers and search engines. http://code.kynetx.com
