Production Woes to Delay iPad 2 to June, iPhone 5 to September?

While Apple’s yearly product release cycle would normally point to the next version of the iPad being released in April, Bloomberg is now reporting that “production bottlenecks” at one of Apple’s manufacturers may delay the arrival of the iPad 2 until as far out as June.

“The delay arose after Cupertino, California-based Apple made design changes before the Lunar New Year,” says Bloomberg, citing a report from analysts at Yuanta Securities.

The analysts’ report continues:

“Our checks suggest new issues are being encountered with the new production and it is taking time to resolve them. As a number of Android 3.0 tablets are being launched in April and May, the delay in iPad 2 shipments may give the Android camp a brief window of opportunity.”

To add another twist to the story, DigiTimes is reporting that HP’s TouchPad tablet may ship in April—much earlier than the company’s previous (and vague) “summer” timeframe.

And another analyst thinks that the iPhone 5 may miss its expected June/July ship date and get pushed all the way out to September. The analyst cites “some chip vendors not having yet received firm iPhone 5 orders, and with other sockets like the image sensor… still in flux.”

It’s important to note that both Apple rumors are merely based on estimations by analysts, so take all the information with a grain of salt. If Apple doesn’t even announce a new iPad sometime in April or a new iPhone sometime in June, then both issues will become much more serious.
