EA Reveals ‘Battlefield 3,’ the Game It Hopes Will Take Out ‘Call of Duty’

Last night at the 2011 Game Developers Conference, EA and its DICE development studio unveiled a look at Battlefield 3, the newest installment of the blockbuster open-world military FPS series.

Powered by an all-new Frostbite 2 engine, the threequel looks to be EA’s big bet on dethroning the shooter hegemony that Activision’s achieved with the dominance of their Call of Duty games.  The first trailer shows a glimpse of the street battles and close-quarters gunplay that the game will offer. I’ll have an interview with DICE executive producer up soon. But, for now, do you think BF3 has what it takes to headshot COD down to second place?

knowing that the majority of EA games look awesome in the trailers, but seriously suck in reality, proves that this one just might suck. The “pull your buddy out of the firefight” seemed cool though…
