The “speed” category is nonsense. “Speed improvement since the last version” is a meaningless measure. How’s the speed of Firefox VERSUS the speed of Chrome? That’s the useful measure.

Just because the prior version of Firefox was a dog, doesn’t mean the new version is better “speed-wise” than Chrome.

Mozilla fixed a bunch of memory leaks, made startup faster and as you can see from the article also faster in general including the UI.

I think most people won’t notice it anymore.

From my tests FF 4 beta is much faster and cleaner than 3.6 bit I hate that the F6 key no longer takes you to the address bar, which is why I don’t use it on a regular basis. Chrome start (initial load) is still faster. I find myself using Chrome more every day.

For synchronization, Chrome currently has a Chrome to Phone app that you can use with any Android powered phone. Not only does it allow you to send a webpage to your phone, it allows you to:

-Send Google Map directions to your phone’s Map app
-Highlight and copy text from webpage and send it to your phone so you can paste it on your wireless device
-Send a specific image from a webpage to your phones browser
-Send a YouTube video straight to your phone’s Youtube app
-Highlight a phone number on a webpage and send it to your phone to automatically dial it for you

I’m pretty sure there’s more, but I haven’t finished finding them all.

I liked the article, but what is the point of comparing how much faster a browser is to its predecessor? It’s like saying a sloth is 100% faster than a snail, and that a new Ferarri is only 10% faster than a Lamborghini, so declaring that the sloth therefore wins the speed test.

Comparing Chrome and Firefox in terms of speed would have been more useful.

I use both on a daily basis. Some sites are better in Chrome, some better in Firefox. I tried out the Chrome Beta for a few days, but switched back for now. And I totally agree with Rorschach – FF is a hog. It takes a long time to load, no matter which computer/OS I am using. Hopefully that changes with 4.0.

Firefox, all the way. Although it doesn’t sound like I’ll be a fan of the new UI they’ve implemented, I’m guessing there will be a “retro” view available.

Firefox is an effing hog. I loved it but chrome is just way cleaner. I havent seen 4.0 in action but unless it fixes the leaks, and waaaay improves it’s speed with JavaScript I’m not interested in switching back.
